There are actually two histories to this ministry. The first is that of Pursuing the Truth Ministries and the second is of the church. The church is actually an outgrowth of the PTM Ministry.

The History of the Ministry

Pursuing the Truth Ministries was founded by William R. Cunningham. William vehemently promotes the study of the Bible and the necessity to be free of the dogma that so proliferates the church community. This personal ministry resulted in the creation of a monthly family fellowship and Bible study on April 23, 1994. William also began teaching a daily Bible study at his place of employment, taught Bible study classes in church, and lead the education department in his church.

The website was created in 1998 and extended the biblical resources to the whole world. William continued teaching in churches but began to feel the need to stretch out so he could freely promote the principles of Bible study that he believed in. He pastored Oasis Christian Fellowship for two years until he and his family relocated. Then in 2003, he decided to take Pursuing the Truth Ministries outside of the Internet and have regular workshops and seminars. A church portion was created rather quickly to accommodate the need for fellowship. Pursuing the Truth is now a Christian educationally oriented ministry touching lives with the Word of God.

The History of the Church

The church actually began as Oasis Christian Fellowship as Pastor Bill was asked to pastor it by Pastor Tony Angelo of Oasis Christian Fellowship. However, Pastor Bill and his family relocated and Oasis Christian Fellowship was discontinued. He and his family frequented other churches. However, it was during their stay at the Abundant Life Christian Center that paved the way for the church to be sprouted.

Pastor Bill noticed a lot of activity on the website and he decided to respond to that. Pursuing the Truth Ministries was getting emails from people all over the world asking all kinds of questions. Pastor Bill decided to start having Bible study classes to teach the Bible since there was none at The Abundant Life Christian Center. Pastor Bill asked a former member of Abundant Life Christian Center to help with planning and implementing these classes since she had earned a masters degree in education. Pastor Bill invited this couple to his home for a dinner meeting and in the process of time decided to ask another couple that had recently left Abundant Life as well.

The meeting happened and the two couples expressed a great concern of having to look for another church and to go through that process all over again. It is indeed tough to find a good church. It was suggested that I start a church instead of just having Bible study classes. Pastor Bill decided to go ahead and start the church as he knew it would happen sooner or later. It was agreed that the church should be started sooner than later. The church would begin on April 13, 2003.

What started as plans for Bible studies turned into plans for a church. We applied for the applicable government certifications, which included non-profit status by the state and 501 (c)(3) exemption status.
